Gibson Kamau Kuria (Kenya, 1988)
Gibson Kamau Kuria, the 1988 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award laureate, is a leading human rights attorney striving for constitutional and legal reform and the elimination of corruption and human rights abuses in Kenya. After the collapse of Kenya's authoritarian rule in 2002, Dr. Kuria established the International Centre for Constitutional Research and Governance (ICCRG), a non-profit international organization that promotes, researches, and educates about democratization, constitutionalism and human rights protection.
In support of Dr. Kuria's work in the reform and reconstruction of the Kenyan government, The Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Center for Human Rights has reached out to the U.S. and Canadian governments, NGOs, law firms and human rights organizations to provide the ICCRG with legal expertise as well as appropriate funding. RFK Center is supporting the ICCRG through research, identifying any participants, and funding for its frequent conferences relating to judicial, legal, educational, economic and civil service fields. The CHR provides ongoing research support for Gibson's public interest advocacy and his efforts to push Kenya from a fragile and politically stagnant nation to an active democracy.
