Journey for Justice: Colombia

In an effort to reengage with our active Colombian Laureates, the CHR intends to visit Bogotá and Cali, Colombia to meet with Berenice Celeyta, Jaime Prieto and Gloria Flórez for the first time in several years. Our laureates’ untiring work to support human rights defenders and end injustice caused by privatization, environmental degradation and increased militarization highlights the moral, social and environmental issues of our day. Berenice is President and co-founder of NOMADESC, a non-governmental organization dedicated to working with internally displaced communities in the southwestern region of Colombia. Gloria, founder and the Executive Director of Minga, the Association for the Promotion of Alternative Social Policy, works to protect human rights defenders, including those who speak out against the harmful effects of fumigations on the environment and the rights of Indigenous, Afro-Colombian and all communities affected by the ongoing violence of Colombia’s internal conflict. Jaime is a founder of the modern human rights movement in Colombia and currently serves as a consultant to human rights groups throughout the country.
