This November marks the 80th birthday of Robert F. Kennedy and the RFK Memorial honored his life and his legacy with a program of events on November 16th, 2005.

Robert Kennedy answered the call to action to create a more just world and in the process he influenced generations of social, political and cultural leaders. We hope to gather those who admired him in life and those that still fight for his mission to celebrate the man, his message and his legacy.

The Robert F. Kennedy Memorial commemorated RFK’s life and legacy with a special tribute at the 2005 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award Ceremony.
The 2005 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award was presented to Stephen Bradberry, the Lead Organizer of the New Orleans chapter of ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now).
The event featureed Mrs. Robert F. Kennedy and speeches by Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA) and Keynote Speaker Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) speaking about how RFK's legacy has impacted America and how they have worked to keep the legacy alive and thriving.

As Americans are faced with tough questions on the role of government and the realities of poverty and human rights abuses, the RFK Memorial hosted a gathering of those who worked with RFK and whose life work was inspired by him to discuss RFK's message and American politics today.
Moderator, Jeff Greenfield, Former Senate Aide and speechwriter for Senator Robert F. Kennedy. He is Senior Analyst at CNN, contributor to a range of programming.
Keynote Listener, The Honorable Rahm Emanuel, Chairman, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and U.S. Representative for Illinois’ 5th Congressional District
Panelists:
Prof. Peter B. Edelman, Former Aide to Senator Robert F. Kennedy and member of the Clinton administration. He is a professor and associate dean of the Georgetown University Law Center.
Mr. Earl G. Graves, Former Aide to Senator Robert F. Kennedy and grew up in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bedford Stuyvesant. He is the Chairman and CEO of Black Enterprise, a magazine for the black entrepreneur.
Dolores Huerta, President of the Dolores Huerta Foundation. She co-founded the United Farm Workers Union (UFW) in 1962 with César Chavez. Dolores was appointed to the Board of Regents for the University of California system in 2004.
Lucas Benitez, 2003 RFK Human Rights Award Laureate of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) from the USA, is a farmworker and leader in the fight to end slave labor, human trafficking, and exploitation in agriculture fields across the U.S.
Stephen Bradberry, 2005 RFK Human Rights Award Laureate, is the Lead Organizer of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) New Orleans Chapter – Commentator.
Martin Macwan, 2000 RFK Human Rights Award Laureate from India, is the founder of Navsarjan Trust in Gujarat, a leading dalit rights organization in India.
The purpose of this forum was to look at what Robert Kennedy’s legacy has meant to today’s political parties, the nongovernmental sector, and specifically the RFK Memorial Center for Human Rights, and help to provide synergies between the political and advocacy communities.

The RFK Memorial will host a reception at the US Senate to wrap up the day’s events. The reception will bring together RFK Memorial staff, supporters, RFK ’68 Campaign workers, Kennedy family, members of Congress, and others taking part in the events.
It will feature short testimonials from RFK supporters like Senator Edward Kennedy, entertainer and activist Harry Belafonte, Dolores Huerta, Joe Scarborough of MSNBC's Scarborough Country, Jeff Shesol, former Clinton speechwriter and Author of “Mutual Contempt: Lyndon Johnson, Robert Kennedy, and the Feud that Defined a Decade” Norman MacAfee, author of "The Gospel According to RFK", Joe Palermo, author of "In His Own Right: The Odyessy of Senator Robert Kennedy", Reverend Robert. F. Drinan, S.J. of Georgetown University and many more.
