RFK Memorial Offers Its Condolences to the Friends and Family of Edwin O. Guthman
Washington, DC--- The Robert F. Kennedy Family and the Board and staff of the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial offer condolences to the family and friends of Edwin O. Guthman, a long time member of the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Board of Directors. Guthman served as Robert F. Kennedy’s press secretary in the Justice Department and U.S. Senate between 1961-65, becoming a family friend and later an adviser during RFK’s 1968 campaign for the U.S. Presidency. Guthman leaves behind an impressive life of achievement as a Pulitzer prize-winning investigative journalist and editor and acclaimed author.
Guthman served as chair of the RFK Memorial Board of Directors during which time he helped found and advised the RFK Memorial’s Social Justice Fellows Program in the 1990’s. In Los Angeles, the joint Americorps program helped young leaders work to improve the lives of at-risk youth in their communities of East LA, Watts and Santa Monica.
“The Robert F. Kennedy Memorial is proud to have had Ed Guthman as an advisor, supporter and friend. Ed was a remarkable man who exuded the principles of justice that Robert F. Kennedy stood for,” said Lynn Delaney, Executive Director of the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial. “Whether it was on the streets of Watts, on the front page of the Los Angeles Times, or in halls of the Justice Department, he made it his life’s work to give a voice to the powerless, expose injustice and help empower our next generation of leaders. We celebrate his life and honor his legacy”.
